Trollstigen, the narrow Norwegian road in Romsdal best known for its views and hairpin turns, reopened ahead of schedule on Friday after being closed for more than a year. Now it’s been deemed safe again after efforts to ward off landslides.
Several vehicles were lined up to become the first to drive up the mountainside on what’s become a National Tourist Route. The road was due to reopen July 14, but highway officials decided they were ready to open ahead of time.
“It’s been a demanding job (to secure the road) in steep and difficult terrain,” Solgunn Langlo, project director for the Møre og Romsdal region, told news bureau NTB. There’s still danger of rockslides, and tolls due to be levied on the route from 2027 will be used to finance further improvements.
