Norway’s foreign ministry raised its travel warning for Iran to the highest level on Tuesday, urging all Norwegian citizens to leave the country immediately. The ministry cited danger from the massive demonstrations in the country and high political tension.
Norwegian officials warned that consular assistance would be extremely limited for any Norwegians needing help. The ministry has earlier advised strongly against travel to Iran, even before at least 2,500 demonstrators are believed to have been killed by the Iranian regime since protests began in earnest in late December.
US officials, meanwhile, have made veiled threats of a possible military attack on Iran, while various US media outlets reported that personnel were being pulled out of several military bases around the Middle East including a base in Qatar. Iran has threatened counter attacks on US bases if it’s attacked, as tension in the region soared.
