Police in Bergen have seized large amounts of heroin and other illegal drugs, and arrested and charged 10 men in Bergen as being part of a “professional” narcotics network. The amount of heroin seized is larger than all seized last year.
They’re calling it an “especially grave narcotics case,” involving 15.5 kilos of heroin, 20 kilos of amphetamines and more than 23,000 tablets. State broadcaster NRK reported that sale or possession of just 15 grams of heroin is considered a major narcotics violation in Norway.
Police believe a large international criminal network is involved in the Bergen operation, which began last year. It climaxed in March with raids at several addresses in Bergen where drugs were seized and several men arrested. The oldest of the 10 now in custody is in his 60s and the youngest in his late teens, all but one of whom are Norwegian citizens.
“They’re all charged in the same case,” prosecutor Øyvind Røyneberg told NRK. “Now we’ll examine what roles they had.” Police also seized large amounts of cash and weapons in their raids.
