The Norwegian men’s national football team scored again on Thursday night, three times against Denmark and enough to win their first match in Nations League action. Superstar Erling Braut Haaland even kissed the coach who’d trained them on a corner play that won the match.
Commentators and coaches agreed it was a highly dramatic match on home turf at Oslo’s Ullevaal Stadium. It started out well for Norway, with goals by Oscar Bobb and Haaland, but then the Danes struck back and the score was tied until Haaland scored again on a dead-ball maneuver from the corner.
Lots of Danish fans who’d sailed up to Oslo on the overnight ferry from Copenhagen went home disappointed, but they’ll have a chance for revenge as Nations League action continues. Next up against Norway, which is playing in the League’s A-division for the first time, meanwhile, is Portugal, followed by Wales.
Results and placement from Nations League action are used to determine how countries are seeded and which groups they land in for European Cup qualification. Norway currently tops the A-group.
