Opera and ballet set new record

More than 300,000 people attended a performance of the Norwegian Opera & Ballet last year and never have so many watched a ballet. New statistics for 2014 show that attendance set a new record.

There were a total of 485 performances both in the Opera House in Oslo and elsewhere when the opera and ballet company was on tour. They were attended by a total of 309,445 people, up from 299,647 in 2013.

“We’re glad to see that attendance figures after the move to the new Opera House (in 2008) are still holding up at a high level,” said managing director Nils Are Karstad Lysø. He was pleased that the public is also “taking a chance” on performances of new operas and new productions of opera and ballet in Oslo.

Around 29,000 people attended the ballet alone, also a new record. The ballet company put on 92 performances on the main stage in Oslo last year.
