Despite pleas for a non-violent party season for graduating high school students this year, a young woman reported being raped during their first weekend of celebrations.
News bureau NTB reported that police in Halden, just over the border from Sweden, were told that a 19-year-old woman was raped by one or more assailants during a large gathering of the students called russ (“roose”). The victim reportedly was dragged into a portable toilet set up at the outdoor party site near the historic Fredriksten fortress.
The assault was said to have taken place around 11:15pm Saturday. Police have examined the area and launched an investigation, and called for information from any witnesses to the attack.
The russ party season was launched during the weekend and runs through the 17th of May
