Police investigators from the national crime unit Kripos were being sent from Oslo to Volda, on Norway’s northwest coast, to help find the cause of an explosion and fire at the city’s main fire station over the weekend.
The explosion on Sunday set off a major fire that engulfed several floors of the building housing both Volda’s City Hall and fire station. Two persons were injured, including one firefighter who was on duty.
The explosion is believed to have occurred in a combined workshop and storage facility within the fire station portion of the building. It may have been caused by a gas, but no conclusions were drawn as of Tuesday.
