Passengers were frustrated and airport officials were hoping for the best on Monday, after thick fog forced closure of Bergen’s Flesland Airport. Flights were disrupted from just before 10am and throughout the day.
Many flights were redirected to Stavanger’s airport at Sola. A few flights managed to land at Flesland when the fog cleared briefly.
The foggy weather is especially aggravating for many who are beginning a week of winter holiday. While Oslo-area schools closed last week, Bergen-area schools were closed this week. Holiday traffic at Flesland was thus higher than normal.
Airport officials urged passengers to stay in touch with their airlines. They couldn’t say how long the disruptions would last, not least because the airport must first be able to receive aircraft, before scheduled flights out of Bergen can take off.
