Cathedral concert honours victims

A memorial concert held at Oslo Cathedral for the victims, survivors and emergency service personnel involved in the terror attacks on Oslo and Utøya island was seen by thousands of Norwegians and others from around the world on the night of Saturday July 30.

The event, organized by Norwegian Broadcasting (NRK), featured a number of well-known Norwegian artists, including the rap duo Karpe Diem, who won the country’s biggest music award earlier this year. Guests at the event included Crown Prince Haakon, Defense Minister Grete Faremo and Justice Minister Knut Storberget.

NRK received a number of messages of support and thanks from around the world as the concert aired on its website. Large screens set up around the cathedral in Oslo allowed hundreds who had gathered on the streets to witness the event.

The concert ended with a rendition of Til Ungdommen (To the young), a poem by Nordahl Grieg set to music. The song has been used in a number of memorial services and events since the attacks.
