An 18-year-old girl who alleged she was gang raped while taking part in the annual “russ” high school graduation celebrations has dropped her case. The girl had reported being raped by four male students inside a russ bus at a party in Lillehammer earlier this month, but then refused to cooperate further with police.
About 6,000 students and up to 50 russ buses were at the party at the Birkebeiner ski stadium. The girl reported the rape to health staff on site, and was taken to a rape clinic in Gjøvik while police launched an investigation. Newspaper Lillehammer Byavis reported on Thursday that no witnesses had been found, and the girl had avoided further police questioning.
“We have no reason to doubt the girl’s report and experience, but she does not want to take the case further,” said Jostein Gravdal from the Lillehammer police district. “She will try to forget and put the matter behind her.”
Byavis reported the case would most likely be dropped by prosecutors.
