Trains collide in Oslo

A locomotive used for maintenance and carrying a crane collided with a passenger train at Alna in Oslo on Tuesday morning. No one was injured, but all local train traffic ground to a halt.

State broadcaster NRK reported that passengers were evacuated from the train that was on its way from Oslo’s central station (Oslo S) to Lillestrøm. The collision occurred just south of the Nyland station, according to operations leader Vidar Pedersen of the Oslo Police District.

The collision halted traffic in both directions but only local trains were affected. Both regional trains and the Airport Express Train (Flytoget) continued to operate as normal and the tunnel between Oslo and Lillestrøm, (Romeriksporten) remained open.

A team from the state accident board had arrived at the scene by early afternoon and an investigation into the cause of the accident was underway.
