‘Julebord’ season keeps police busy

The often wild Christmas party season in Norway, known as julebordsesongen, kept police extra busy during the weekend. Instead of celebrating peace on earth, many partying Norwegians seemed intent on disturbing it.

“We had quite a lot of calls tied to lack of order and disturbances of the peace,” Gjermund Stokkli, operations leader for the Oslo Police District, told news bureau NTB. Saturday night was especially hectic, Stokkli said, but there were no serious injuries reported.

“Most of the calls were because of lots of noise, partying and drunkenness,” Stokkli said. Several people were arrested, also for driving while under the influence of alcohol. Similar reports were filed in other towns and cities around Norway. The julebord season runs through New Year.
