Bærum ranks highest in median pay

Residents of Bærum, the affluent suburban area west of Oslo, have Norway’s highest median monthly pay of NOK 49,200 (USD 5,466). Asker (west of Bærum) and Oppegård (south of Oslo) ranked next.

The remote Arctic island of Røst ranked lowest in Norway, with residents earning median income of NOK 35,400 a month. The new numbers were compiled in September 2018 and published this week by state statistics bureau SSB (Statistics Norway).

Six municipalities in Norway logged median income over NOK 45,000 per month. The other three included another island community off Norway’s west coast, Utsira, followed by Nesodden (a short ferry ride from Oslo) and Norway’s oil capital of Stavanger.

Those ranking at the bottom of the pay scale, but just ahead of Røst, were Hattfjelldal in Nordland County and Etnedal in Oppland. The median monthly income in Oslo, meanwhile, was NOK 44,130 per month.
