UPDATED: Norway’s 85-year-old monarch King Harald V came home from sailing in the World Championships in Geneva last week to landing in the hospital with a fever. Doctors later said he needed treatment for an infection, but the Royal Palace reported his condition as stable.
Fevers don’t normally require hospitalization, but it’s different when you’re the head of state and your doctors are attached to the National Hospital in Oslo. Examinations were made to determine the cause of the fever, according to the palace, which proved to be an infection.
King Harald, an avid sailor, seemed in fine form during last week’s sailing competition, in which his boat placed 10th in the eight-meter boat category. He’s been in and out of the hospital in recent years for various reasons but had been training for the event after a busy spring of royal duties.
He’s still scheduled to get back to work next week with the first regular Council of State with the government on August 12 following the summer holidays.
