Suspected spy won’t answer questions

A Norwegian man arrested earlier this month on charges of spying for China has refused to submit to questioning by Norway’s police intelligence agency PST. Investigators, meanwhile, claim their case against him is growing.

“PST has made progress in its investigation,” PST spokesman Eirik Veum told NRK on Wednesday, through questioning of those who’ve dealt with the supect and a “considerable amount” of seizures.

The Norwegian citizen in his 30s was arrested at Oslo’s main airport at Gardermoen right after he’d landed after another trip to China. His defense attorney won’t comment on why he refuses to answer questions, but he continues to claim he’s innocent of the espionage charges against him.

NRK reported that others who’ve had contact with him over the years describe him as sociable but also impulsive. He has a criminal conviction for damaging an embassy building in connection with a political demonstration, and failed to show up for his sentence of civil service. He then had to serve a short prison term. staff
