Avinor, the state-owned company in charge of running Norway’s airports, faces higher costs for technology improvement projects that have left it with budget overruns. It thus needs more money from airport users and the state.
Newspaper Dagens Næringsliv (DN) has reported how several major ongoing projects have exceeded both time and budget estimates. Among them are a new automated system for the airport tower in Bodø, digital modernization of air traffic control systems and maintenance projects.
Avinor is thus asking for as much as NOK 2 billion extra in the next state budget along with higher fees from airlines, passengers and other users of airport property and services. Airlines, not least Norwegian Air and SAS, which faced a new strike this week, need to cut costs themselves. State auditors, meanwhile, are following up earlier probes of Avinor’s investments.
