Norway’s state statistics bureau SSB reported Tuesday that prices in general are up 2.6 percent since September last year. Food prices, meanwhile, have risen another 4.5 percent, but were slightly down from August.
Food prices usually fall in September, when the Norwegian harvest hits grocery stores and fresh fruit and vegetables are in abundance. Broccoli, for example, can now be bought for as low as NOK 14 (USD 1.29 at current exchange rates), down from nearly NOK 30 at local grocery stores last winter.
Price growth in general is nearly half what it was last year at this time. It’s also sinking closer to the central bank’s inflation goal of just 2 percent, which, if met, can prompt a decline in interest rates.
