An unusual spring storm was battering Northern Norway on Thursday with heavy rain, strong winds of up to 35 meters a second and waves as high as 13 meters. The storm comes just after unusually warm temperatures were recorded in the south.
The storm raging roughly from Stokmarknes to Bodø closed all highways and mountain passes including the main E6 highway over Saltfjellet that connects the north and the south. Ferries were cancelled and both Lofoten and Vesterålen were hardest hit.
Meanwhile, in Southern Norway, several spots were recording temperatures of around 20C, considered a summer-like day in Norway. It was warmer in the mountain valley of Hallingdal, at Nesbyen, with 19.2C than it was in either Athens or Barcelona.
