Norway’s best Olympic medal day ever

It didn’t take long for Norwegian athletes to grab the top spot in the medals race at the Winter Olympics in Italy, and then stay there. On Tuesday they won six more: Three gold, a silver and two bronze.

Champion cross-country skier Johannes Høsflot Klæbo didn’t disappoint when he mined his latest gold medal at the winter games, this time in the sprint. Birk Ruud also grabbed gold in slopestyle skiing and Johan-Olav Botn in the 20-kilometer biathlon.

Norway’s mixed ski jumping team featuring both men and women, meanwhile, won a silver medal Tuesday evening, while both cross-country skier Oskar Opstad Vike and biathlon skier Sturla Holm Lægreid won bronze medals, in the sprint and the 20-kilometer race respectively.

All that came on top of six earlier medals: Gold for Klæbo again in a 20-kilometer race, for Sander Eitrem in the gruelling 5000-meter speed skating race and for ski-jumper Anna Odine Strøm. Then came Ragne Wiklund with a silver medal in a 3,000-meter speed skating race plus two bronze medals for Heidi Weng and Martin Løwstrøm Nyenget in cross country skiing.

Norway thus remained at the top of the medals race with a total of 12 so far: Six gold, two silver and four bronze. Next in line were Germany and Sweden, tied with six medals medals each and both with three in gold, two in silver and one in bronze, followed by Switzerland with five medals, three gold and one each in silver and bronze.
