New avalanche warnings posted

Norwegian authorities were warning of high avalanche danger on Tuesday, after more snow has fallen on top of older snow, followed by a rise in temperatures. NVE, the agency in charge of Norway’s waterways and hydroelectric resources, posted orange-level warnings that are second only to red alerts.

NVE warned that avalanche danger would be highest in the mountains of Jotunheimen, Indre Sogn, Hallingdal and Vest-Telemark on Tuesday. Warnings are likely to be reduced to a yellow-level (moderate danger) on Wednesday except in Jotunheimen.

The warnings mean skiers and hikers should avoid terrain steeper than 30 degrees and stay away from areas near streams or rivers.
