Not only are Norwegian athletes raking in honours at the Winter Olympics, the country’s chefs are doing rather well, too. When the Michelin Guide handed out its stars on Monday, all five of Norway’s winners kept theirs while a new Oslo restaurant won one, too.
Björn Svensson stuck again. The formerly Swedish chef who landed in Oslo several years ago won stars for two of his former restaurants. Last fall he opened Galt in Oslo’s Frogner district, and it won a star Monday night,
Svensson was in Copenhagen to receive his white jacket from the Michelen Guide, which claimed that the “rustic look” of Galt’s dishes “belies the skill that goes into their composition.”
Espen Holmboe Bang’s restaurant Maaemo, situated next to the railroad tracks into Oslo’s Central Station, retained all three of its Michelin stars, meanwhile, one of only a handfull in the Nordic countries to have so many.
Restaurants Kontrast and Statholdergaarden in Oslo also kept their single stars, as did Re-naa and Sabi Omakase in Stavanger. Restaurant Eik and Smalhans in Oslo also retained their “Bib Gourmand” distinctions in the Michelin Guide.
