Vikernes charged with hate crimes

Kristian “Varg” Vikernes, the Norwegian black metal musician who was arrested in France on terrorism charges last month but later released, now faces new charges of inciting hate. He also was charged with defending war crimes, reported French newspaper Le Monde.

Vikernes, age 40, served 16 years of a 21-year prison sentence in Norway after stabbing a fellow musician to death and burning down several Norwegian churches. He’s now an immigrant in France, even though he strongly opposes immigration, after Norwegian authorities allowed him to leave Norway with his French wife.

They were both arrested in mid-July by French anti-terror police on charges of planning a terrorist attack. Police lacked evidence, though, and they were both released pending further charges. He now faces court proceedings in Paris on hate charges, but has written on his blog that he wanted to be charged with spreading hate against those who he claims are trying to wipe out Europe.
