Police nab suspected jewelry store robbers

Police in Stockholm have arrested eight persons suspected of robbing the Oslo Diamantsenter (Diamond Center) last week.

Three of the eight, all originally from Chile, were stopped by police in Stockholm, suspected of theft and receiving stolen property in Sweden. Five more were arrested in a Stockholm apartment, where police found large quantities of jewelry believed to stem from jewelry stores in Oslo that were held up by armed robbers last week.

Photos of the jewelry were sent to police in Norway and Denmark and eventually identified by an employee of the Oslo Diamantsenter.

All eight suspects were subject to custody hearings over the weekend and Oslo police were requesting their extradition to Norway. It remained unclear whether the same suspects were also behind the armed robbery of a watch shop in the fashionable shopping center Paléet in Oslo.
