Norwegian joins US’ National Academy of Sciences

Professor Johan P Olsen, internationally renowned as a political scientist, has become the third Norwegian to be elected to the prestigious National Academy of Sciences in the US. Of the academy’s 2,200 members, only 400 are foreigners.

Olsen was chosen for his important contributions to research, reports newspaper Aftenposten. He is considered an expert on organizational theory and is not only Norway’s most influential political scientist but also likely the most influential among the Nordic countries.

Olsen is a professor emeritus at the ARENA Center for European Research at the University of Oslo, has honorary doctorates from four countries and has won a series of international prizes. He is also a Commander of St Olav’s Order, a prestigious royal decoration.
