Norway’s white collar crime unit Økokrim has opened a new investigation into allegations of economic irregularities, management incompetence and influence peddling at Tromsø-based power company Troms Kraft.
The company is Northern Norway’s largest energy firm, owned by Troms County and the City of Tromsø. It’s repeatedly landed in trouble, though, over illegal financial support for the district-friendly Center Party (Senterpartiet, Sp), alleged attempts to gain Sp’s help as a member of the left-center government coalition, manipulation of its accounts and management incompetence.
A court-ordered report on Troms Kraft’s operations revealed a long list of infractions and now the state police unit in charge of investigating economic crime is following up. Troms Kraft has reported huge losses tied to some of the problems. Former executives claim they welcome the probe.
