New Norwegian fox grabs spotlight

A video showing an unlikely friendship between a Norwegian dog and a wild fox has gone viral, attracting millions of views on news and social media sites worldwide.

Tinni the dog first met the red fox, dubbed Snus, while walking in the forests southeast of Oslo over the summer. The pair began a tentative friendship, and now play together at every opportunity. Tinni’s owner, Torgeir Berge, captured footage of the two frolicking in the woods and in the snow (external links to videos).

“I usually whistle to tell Snus we’re here, and then he comes running,” Berge told Norwegian Broadcasting (NRK). “Sometimes we see each other many days in a row, but sometimes there are several days in between.”

Berge says he’s been overwhelmed by interest from the international media, who have been enchanted by the real-life fox and hound tale. The hobby photographer plans to release a book featuring the pair, and told NRK that he hopes hunters will refrain from shooting the fox, leaving the friends to play in peace.
