Snow delayed flights at OSL Gardermoen

Despite having a large fleet of snowplows, maintenance crews at Oslo’s main airport at Gardermoen couldn’t keep runways cleared after snow kept falling through the night and morning on Thursday. Several flights were cancelled and others delayed.

“Right now around half of all the flights are delayed,” Kristian Løksa, spokesman for state airports authority Avinor, told Norwegian Broadcasting (NRK) around midday. Some flights were delayed by nearly an hour, others by 10 minutes.

“We have to keep clearing the runways of snow, that’s why there are delays,” Løksa added. Passengers were advised, as usual, to meet up at scheduled departure times and follow information from their airlines.

State meteorologists predicted the snowfall would ease and the sun came out in Oslo by early afternoon. “But if you’re going traveling, you should expect some delays, also this afternoon,” Løksa cautioned. It was snowing again on Friday, but no major delays were reported.
