An election booth run by the right-wing political party Demokratene in Oslo was vandalized and all but torn down during the weekend. It’s the latest sign of hostilities and divisions within Norwegian politics.
News bureau NTB reported that the vandalism occurred shortly after midnight Saturday. Max Hermansen, who tops the Oslo Democratene’s list of candidates for Parliament in the September election, told NTB that much of the booth (where party officials are available during the day to chat with voters) had been destroyed and a person was seen “dancing” on its ruins.
Party leader Makvan Kasheikai told NTB that the party was reporting the vandalism to police. The party, which only won 0.1 percent of the vote in the last election and did not qualify for representation in Parliament, advocates reducing the number of Muslims in Oslo and Norway.
