The body of a Norwegian woman who disappeared in the southern Swedish city of Landskrona on Christmas Eve was found during the weekend, washed up on a nearby beach. An attorney for the family of 43-year-old Eirin Mikkelsen told state broadcaster NRK that they’d been “prepared for the worst.”
Police, who had launched a major search for Mikkelsen during the Christmas and New Year holidays, wouldn’t immediately confirm the attorney’s information. Swedish media had reported, however, that a body was found in the sea at Lundåkrabukten, outside Landskrona.
She was last seen in Landskrona’s harbour area late Christmas Eve. Divers, drones and specially trained dogs were used in the search for her, after Swedish police deemed her disappearance as “suspicious.” It was initially investigated as a possible kidnapping of the woman, who had been living in Sweden.
