Four tourists from Poland ran into trouble while skiing near Hallingskarvet near Geilo last weekend. Caught in bad weather on their way to a cabin, they spent the night in a tent but one of them left to try to find the cabin, and that proved fatal.
News bureau NTB reported this week that rescue crews, unable to use a helicopter because of the bad weather, reached those in the tent who survived the night out by snowmobile.
The most experienced skier among them, however, had left the tent to try to find Lordehytta, the cabin where they’d all intended to spend the night. The skier was later found unconscious by search and rescue crews not far from the cabin. Revival efforts were unsuccessful and the skier was declared dead at the scene.
