Fully 40 percent of Norwegians surveyed said they plan to spend their summer holidays in Norway again this year. Domestic holidays were all but mandatory during the Corona crisis, and they’ve clearly become popular.
The survey, conducted by research firm Infact for newspaper Nationen, found that only around 10 percent had firm plans to travel abroad this summer. That was even before recent reports of airport chaos around Europe and difficulties renewing passports.
Around 20 percent plan to combine vacation time in Norway with some travel abroad. Employers organization Virke said it may take time before Norwegians resume extensive traveling again, while others cite concerns tied to Russia’s war on Ukraine and massive flight cancellations caused by a lack of pilots, crews and ground crews. A vast majority of older Norwegians also are choosing to travel within Norway this summer.
