Heavy rain fell over much of southeastern Norway Friday evening, flooding streets and stranding motorists. Several outdoor festivals also turned into extremely wet affairs.
“We’ve had some really bad weather,” one resident of the popular coastal town of Son told Norwegian Broadcasting (NRK). The deck around his home was covered with hailstones, which also covered streets in Fredrikstad farther to the south.
Many streets and parking lots in the town of Mysen southeast of Oslo, were also under water Friday evening as the downpours stretched from Agder in the southwest to Østlandet and east to the Swedish border. Emergency crews were working to help residents pump water out of cellars and unclog sewer drains.
