Spring seems to be coming much too early to Norway. Oslo recorded a balmy 16C late last week, the highest ever so early in the year, and almost all the snow in the city is gone.
Skiers are also complaining about a lack of snow in the local hills and in the mountains. It’s been raining instead of snowing at high elevations, and even the popular skiing destination of Hemsedal didn’t have much to offer this past weekend on the cross-country trails.
Residents of Vestlandet, meanwhile, have been mopping up after rains so heavy that state meteorologists described them as “rivers in the air” that poured down from Trøndelag in the north to Rogaland in the south. That also led to various landslides and flooding, and warnings were posted for Hardanger, Voss, Indre Sogn, Jotunheimen, Sunnmøre, Romsdal and Trollheimen.
Double-digit temperatures have also been recorded in Northern Norway, with unusually balmy weather in Troms and more signs of early spring.
