Anders Besseberg, who once led the International Biathlon Union (IBU), has filed an appeal to Norway’s Supreme Court after losing again in his earlier appeal of a corruption conviction. He currently faces three years in prison.
Besseberg, now 79 years old, has been in and out of courtrooms for several years after first being under investigation, then charged and indicted for accepting lavish gifts when he the IBU boss. The gifts, holidays and use of prostitutes he received from Russian officials were legally viewed as bribes.
He was found guilty, also at the appeals court level late last summer, and has now appealed to the Supreme Court. Besseberg has claimed innocence all along and his defense attorneys have called for dismissal of all charges against him.
