Klæbo forced to drop Holmenkollen race

Norway’s sensational skier Johannes Høsflot Klæbo was under observation at a hospital in Drammen, after falling in a sprint and suffering a head injury. He won’t be able to compete in this weekend’s annual Holmenkollen Ski Festival in Oslo.

Doctors diagnosed Klæbo, who recently won more gold medals than anyone ever has at a Winter Olympics, with a mild concussion that requires rest and healing. Klæbo wrote on social media that he faced some time free of “both training and the Internet,” in order to make sure everything goes well. He noted that he “only has one head,” and it was important to take care of it.

The 29-year-old Klæbo got caught in a mass collision of skiers at the traditional race in downtown Drammen, falling and hitting the back of his head on the hard surface of the snow. He could be seen holding his head in pain immediately after the fall.

He’d been due to take part in the 50-kilometer race for men at Holmenkollen on Saturday, but that’s not possible now. It remained unclear whether he’d be able to take part in the last World Cup event of the season in Lake Placid, New York next weekend.
