Pedophile arrested in Gambia

A 45-year-old Norwegian man from Telemark, with a criminal history of sexual assaults against children, remained in custody in Banjul, Gambia over the weekend on suspicion of assaults against young local boys.

Gambian police also seized video equipment and computer memory cards with what they described as “indecent” photos, reported newspaper Aftenposten. The Norwegian man was found with six young boys in the bedroom of where he was staying in Gambia.

The man has several convictions for sexual assault against minor boys in Norway, including 100 assaults against his own young son. He was charged again last fall in another pedophile case, but left Norway in November and traveled to Gambia.

Gambian police told Aftenposten the man “should never have been set free” in Norway. He now faces a prison term in Gambia of 14 years if found guilty of assaults against children by a tourist.
