A 38-year-old man from Sudan has been indicted for allegedly spying on refugees from his homeland, and handing his information over to the Embassy of Sudan in Oslo. The information is believed to have endangered the lives of the refugees.
Embassy officials have consistently denied involvement in the spying case, which led to an expulsion order against one of its diplomats last fall.
The man charged with spying on the refugees from Sudan was arrested in Trondheim in October. Norwegian Broadcasting (NRK) reported that prosecutors believe the alleged spying was conducted over a lengthy period by the man who has permanent resident status in Norway himself and was fully employed at the time of his arrest.
